The 2023 Beef and Lamb New Zealand Awards celebrate the people, innovation, technologies and management systems that make New Zealand’s grass-based red meat industry world-leading.
The Datamars Livestock Technology Award was won by Silver Farm Farms & Lynker Analytics for the Net Carbon Zero Mapping System.
The award judges said
this mapping technology and associated processes provided a practical and cost-effective way to create a brand and reward farmers for their on-farm vegetation. The technology enabled farmers to capitalise on the vegetation on their farms while meeting consumer demand for red meat produced with a smaller environmental footprint. The judges added the technology sped up the measurement of on-farm vegetation which has traditionally been a laborious and time-consuming process.
Matt Lythe from Lynker Analytics and Ryan MacArthur, On-Farm Sustainability Manager at Silver Fern Farms received the award. In acceptance of the award Matt said
We are pleased to receive this award and we acknowledge the impactful technology on show from the other finalists Bidr and Cloud Yards. This is recognition by the industry of the dedication from Lynker Analytics and Silver Fern Farms towards the goal of mapping sequestration at sub hectare farm scale.
Over 300 people attended the celebrations where finalists of eight award categories were introduced and winners announced.
