The Energy Efficiency & Conservation Authority (EECA) has launched an interactive, map-based dashboard to support the growth of electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure nationwide. Its goal is to accelerate EV adoption by ensuring sufficient charging points within communities. The tool helps charge point operators identify areas of current and future demand, strengthening business cases and funding applications.
EECA partnered with Lynker Analytics to develop the dashboard, and also providing ongoing support and routine data updates. The dashboard presents key insights, including current and projected EV numbers, anticipated charger demand, and the existing charger network.
Users can explore data at various geographic scales, starting as small as a Statistical Area 2 (SA2). It integrates regular NZTA data on EV registrations within SA2s, StatsNZ population projections, and nationwide EV uptake forecasts from the Climate Change Commission (CCC). Using this information, Lynker Analytics generates projections for each SA2 over the next ten years.
The dashboard dynamically updates key metrics as users zoom, pan, and select future years. This flexibility enables stakeholders to assess different locations and investment opportunities with greater precision.
